Illinois County Government Audit Shows Hits & Misses of FOIA Compliance

A new audit suggests that a number of Illinois counties are working to help provide transparency, but could do a better job in giving citizens information of who to contact and providing instructions.   The report comes from audits in several states including Illinois. We reporters love to grumble when someone won’t return repeated attempts to contact them. How about when people try to get ahold of us? Some news rooms and reporters are not so easy to reach.

The Poynter Institute examined the issue of why newsrooms aren’t always the easiest when it comes to touching base.  More
