Write short sentences. That’s what it takes to communicate. It makes your stories easier to understand. It’s not always easy. You have to write, edit and think. Then rewrite.
One rule of thumb I’d heard was try to write a sentence shorter than ten words. Wait that was 15 words. Let’s try again… “Try to make your sentences less than ten words.” I was successful that time.
Jeff Butera is the author of Write Like You Talk. He suggests eight to 12 words per sentence. It makes it easier for your audience to understand.
