Jay Pearce passed away today. Here is a statement from the Illinois News Broadcasters Association
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Jay Pearce, who died this morning, according to family. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May.
Jay was a forever friend to the INBA and its members. He was the general manager of WVIK, the public radio station in Rock Island, for 11 years, ending with his retirement in 2022.
He previously worked at Illinois Public Media and other radio and TV stations throughout Illinois, as well as Missouri and Texas. He taught broadcast journalism at the University of Illinois and his alma mater, Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
After retirement, he continued to advocate for public radio as executive director of the Illinois Public Broadcasting Council.
