The December 7 deadline is approaching for nominations for the 2023 Illinois Broadcasters Association Minority Internship Program.
I would strongly encourage you to nominate rising juniors and seniors for the program, which will allow those selected to have a paid summer internship in a field of their interest at Illinois radio and TV stations.

You contribute to the students’ success by recognizing and nominating them for the program. Please take time to consider students who could benefit from the program, and who possess both promise and the basic skills needed. Let them know about the MIP and encourage them to compile the necessary materials (listed below). The deadline is December 7. I plan interviews with candidates in January and then, in consultation with others, select those who will take part in the internships next summer.
Also, if you have students who are fluent in Spanish there are opportunities to work in radio and television news for Spanish language TV in Chicago.

This is an excellent opportunity for minority college students looking for professional broadcast experience. If you know a student who could benefit from this career boost, please let them know!
Remember, the candidates must be enrolled in college, in undergraduate status and covered by the school’s insurance policy if they wish to intern. Students who will have graduated by summer are not eligible.

Nominations are due December 7. In addition, here are the other requirements students must meet to qualify:
1. Three letters of recommendation from faculty or broadcast professionals
2. Current resume
3. 250-word essay on “How I would benefit from the IBA-MIP internship.”
4. Example(s) of the student’s writing
5. Completed IBA MIP Application for APPLICATION FOR ILLINOIS BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION MULTICULTURAL INTERNSHIP GRANT (ilba.org)

ALL OF THE MATERIAL SHOULD BE SENT TO ME ELECTRONICALLY AT THE E MAIL ADDRESS BELOW by the December 7 deadline or to the mailing address listed on the forms.
If you have any questions, please let me know. You can reach me at Bwheelhouse1@comcast.net or 217-819-1196.
Also, feel free to let me know of the students you have selected, so I can monitor their application process.
If you know of other faculty or internship advisers who might have nominees, please pass this information along to them

Thanks,

Bill Wheelhouse
